Fireman Sam is a British animated children's television series about a fireman named Sam, his fellow firefighters, and other residents in the fictional Welsh rural village of Pontypandy (a portmanteau of two real towns, Pontypridd and Tonypandy). It was broadcast for the first time in November 1987 on Welsh TV channel S4C and is shown in more than 155 countries across the world.
In 2001, a pilot was made but it has never been released to the public, aside from a screening at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2002.
History[]
In 2001, the company Orange Apple Studios made a pilot for a new stop motion animation style to S4C. Unfortunately, the pitch would later be rejected. They then decided to go with HIT Entertainment, best known for Bob the Builder. The pilot also had different character designs and different actors instead of John Sparkes.
In 2002, it would be screened at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in 2002. It has not been released to the public since.
Plot (Unconfirmed)[]
It was an earlier version of the first episode "Danger Falling Sheep". There were also characters that were not in the final episode, including Norman's brother Johnny.
Availability[]
As of 2023, only a few images have been found, with no footage surfaced. A model of Sam from the pilot was found on eBay in 2024.
